HUD AWARDS $49 MILLION IN GRANTS TO HELP LOW-INCOME FAMILIES GET JOB TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT

WASHINGTON - U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Steve Preston today announced that public housing agencies in 48 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico will receive nearly $49 million to provide low-income people with the necessary job training to put them on a path toward self-sufficiency.

HUD TO SPEED PROCESS FOR AWARDING GRANTS

WASHINGTON - In an effort to accelerate the process of awarding grants to State and local governments, non-profit organizations, and other community-based applicants, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced a new streamlined funding process. HUD will now announce funding notices on a program-by-program basis, an action that will speed up the application process for prospective grantees that would otherwise be required to wait for the publication of HUD's comprehensive funding notice.

PRESTON ANNOUNCES $26.5 MILLION IN 'SWEAT EQUITY GRANTS'

WASHINGNTON - U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Steve Preston today awarded $26.5 million in "sweat equity grants" to produce at least 1,540 homes for lower income first-time homebuyers. Three non-profit housing providers will use HUD's grants to construct or rehabilitate homes along with contributed labor from the homebuyers and volunteers.

HUD APPROVES $777 MILLION DEAL TO CONSTRUCT 223-BED HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING IN HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today made a commitment to insure a loan to Capital Health System (CHS) in Trenton, New Jersey to construct a new 223-bed hospital in Hopewell Township, New Jersey to replace the existing Mercer Medical Center. The $777 million loan is made possible through the Federal Housing Administration's Section 242 Hospital Mortgage Insurance Program.
